When Virender Sehwag crosses 100, he makes sure he gets a big one. At least his last few prove that. Sehwag has bagged yet another record, this time emulating Sir Don Bradman. Sehwag's last seven centuries have all been scores of 150 plus, beating Bradman's streak of six centuries of 150 plus starting from the Lords Test of 1930 and ending with the Brisbane test against South Africa in 1932.

The table below shows Sehwag's progression:

Virender Sehwag's last 7 centuries Runs Against Venue Year
246* Pakistan Lahore 2005-06
201 Pakistan Bangalore 2004-05
173 Pakistan Mohali 2003-04

# The partnership between Virender Sehwag and Rahul Dravid, now undefeated on 403, has sent quite a few records crashing. They are listed below:

1. Highest opening partnership in Pakistan. Previous best: 298 - Aamer Sohail and Ijaz Ahmed v West Indies at Karachi, 1997-98.

2. Highest opening partnership for India against Pakistan. Previous best: 200 - Sunil Gavaskar and Krish Srikkanth at Chennai, 1986-87.

3. Highest opening partnership at Lahore. Previous best: 192 - Sunil Gavaskar and Chetan Chauhan, 1978-79.

4. Highest opening stand against Pakistan. Previous best: 368 - Graeme Smith and Herschelle Gibbs, 2002-03.

The pair are also 11 runs away from breaking the all time record for opening partnerships, set by Pankaj Roy and Vinoo Mankad against New Zealand at Madras in 1955-56.

The third day of the test between India and South Africa saw a lot of records being broken. I’ve compiled a list of the records that were broken, and also compiled some useful facts.

* Third Fastest Double Century
Sehwag scored his double century in 194 balls, the third fastest ever. He now has the second & third fastest double centuries.
* Fastest Triple Century
Sehwag scored his triple century in a mere 278 balls. The fastest triple century and the only triple century to be scored at more than a run a ball. The next fastest triple century came in 362 balls, here’s a list of the fastest triples.
* Third player with two triple centuries.
Sehwag is only the third player with two triple centuries. The other players are Brian Lara and Sir Don Bradman. What is amazing of this feat is that Sehwag has played only 55 test matches, Brian Lara played 130 matches and Bradman 53.
* Highest score by any player in India
Sehwag has the highest score in India by any player breaking VVS Laxman’s epic 281 at Kolkata. Conveniently he has the only triple century in India.
* 10 consecutive centuries of more than 150 runs
Sehwag’s last ten centuries have all been above 150. This shows that when he crosses 100, he crosses 150 often. The closest to this record is current India coach Gary Kirsten with 7
* Most number of runs scored in a single day of play (since 1954)
Sehwag scored 254 runs, the most number of runs in a single day’s play since Denis Compton’s 273 in 1954
* Consecutive 200 plus partnerships
Sehwag and India are the only player, team to have two consecutive 200 run partnerships in the same innings.
* Most number of runs scored in a single day in India
India scored 368 runs in the day’s place, the highest ever.

Random Sehwag Facts:

* Sehwag’s last triple century against Pakistan came on this exact day four years ago. He scored 309 against Pakistan at Multan on 28 March 2005 2004
* Sehwag hit 41 boundaries and 5 sixes in his 309
* He has more century’s than fifties. He has 14 centuries and 13 fifties.
* Out of his 14 centuries, 11 are more than 150. A conversion rate of 78%
* He clearly learn’t from Sachin’s nervous 90’s. Sehwag raced from 90-100, 190-200 and 290-300 with atleast a couple of boundaries or a six. he didn’t sit around much in the 90’s

Indian opener Virender Sehwag scored his second triple century in Test Cricket. He scored 309 not out on third day in Chennai against South Africa. On a way triple century, he broke several rare records in test cricket. He is the rare cricketer who can change the game in a matter of single session. South African bowlers failed to stop the run flow as Sehwag determined to silence his critics. He plundered bowlers like Dale Steyn, Ntini and Morkel like club bowlers. It is difficult to forget his stroke play especially in second session. He destroyed egos of several great bowlers through his swashbuckling innings. Test cricket needs entertainers like him to attract audience. If Sachin Tendulkar is Little Master, Sehwag is Little Genius.

Records of Virender Sehwag in Chennai test:

1. Sehwag scored fastest triple century in the history of test cricket. He broke the record of Mathew Hayden of Australia.

2. He created 2 double century partnerships in single innings (first time in test cricket for India).
3. He equalled his own record of highest run scorer in a single innings for India. He scored 309 against Pakistan on March 28 in Multan. Is it accident or incidence?

4. After Bradman and Lara, he is the third cricketer to score 2 triple centuries in test cricket.

5. He is the only Indian cricketer to score triple centuries in test cricket.

6. In the top 8 fastest double centuries list, three of them belong to Virender Sehwag.

7. He scored third fastest double century in test cricket.

8. He scored highest runs for India in a single innings in India by breaking Laxman's record of 275.

I hope Sehwag will continue his run spree on fourth day and break Lara’s record of highest test runs in a single innings (400). He has time and talent on his side. I am eagerly waiting for next session.

Virender Sehwag Wiki

Virender Sehwag (Hindi: विरेंद्र सेहवाग, Punjabi: ਵਿਰੇਨ੍ਡਰ੍ ਸੇਹ੍ਆਗ੍) (born 20 October 1978, in Delhi, India), affectionately known as Viru, is one of the leading batsmen in the Indian cricket team. He played his first One Day International in 1999 and joined the Indian Test cricket team in 2001. Sehwag is an aggressive right-handed opening batsman and an occasional right-arm off-spin bowler.

Sehwag holds multiple records including the highest score made by an Indian in Test cricket (319), which was also the fastest triple century in the history of international cricket (reached 300 off only 278 balls). Sehwag also holds the record of being one of the only three batsmen in the world to have ever surpassed 300 twice in Test cricket. In March 2009, Sehwag smashed the fastest century ever scored by an Indian in ODI cricket.

Sehwag was appointed as vice-captain of the Indian team under Rahul Dravid in October 2005 but due to poor form, he was later replaced by V. V. S. Laxman in December 2006 as Test vice-captain. In January 2007, Sehwag was dropped from the ODI team and later from the Test team as well. During his term as vice-captain, Sehwag skippered the team in place of injured Dravid in 2 ODIs and 1 Test. Following his return to form in 2008 and the retirement of Anil Kumble, Sehwag has been reappointed as the vice-captain for both Tests and ODIs. By early 2009, Sehwag had reestablished himself as one of the best performing batsmen in ODI cricket.
