BMW Group Australia will bring the BMW M1 Homage show car to Melbourne in February 2009, to form the centrepiece of its stand at the Melbourne International Motor Show.

The BMW M1 Homage was created in 2008 to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the BMW M1 road and race car programme, the car developed by the highly successful BMW M GmbH division.

The BMW M1 Homage will sit alongside the all-new BMW 7 Series Sedan which makes its Australian public debut at Melbourne, and the just-released BMW X6 xDrive50i, both of which are powered by the first ever BMW Twin Turbo V8 engines.

The link is apt, given the BMW M1 Group 5 race version was powered by an 850 bhp twin-turbo six-cylinder engine.

For BMW, heritage is always also a living heritage. Drawing inspiration from your own past and thereby reinventing yourself that is exactly what the BMW M1 Homage demonstrates in impressive style, Dr Klaus Draeger, BMW Group Board Member, Development explained at the unveiling of the BMW M1 Homage at the world famous Concorso dEleganza Villa dEste at Lake Como, Italy.

The BMW M1 Homage is a design study in the tradition of a BMW Turbo that represents a contemporary take on the BMW M1 and the mid-engine concept.

The Liquid Orange paintwork exclusively developed for the BMW M1 Homage cites the classic BMW M1 colour, yet surprises with its powerfully iridescent play of colour and brilliant depth.

It gives life to the extrovert silhouette, highlighting the bold convex and concave surfaces.

The BMW M1 Homage lifts many of the unique styling cues for the original M1 such as the air vents in the bonnet, louvers on the rear screen and the black cut line that divides the roofline from the rear section of the body.

Another feature carried over is the twin outboard BMW Roundels, positioned at the extremity of each wing, as in all previous mid-engined BMW models.

Back in 1979, the BMW M1 was Germany's fastest series production sports car. While many were dressed in aggressive war paint for racing in the Proccar series, none is better known than the BMW Art Car, immortalised by Andy Warhol.

We are delighted to be able to announce the BMW M1 Homage show car will be arriving in Australia for the Melbourne International Motor Show, said BMW Group Australia Managing Director Guenther Seemann.

Here is the BMW M1 Homage Animated Video

The BMW M1 Homage is a sensational looking car that highlights both the strong dynamic Motorsport heritage of BMW, but also the talent and skill of our current designers, who created a 21st century look at how a new generation BMW M1 could look.

There is no doubt the BMW M1 Homage will be a draw card for the visitors to the Melbourne show, joining with our new Twin Turbo V8-powered BMW 7 Series and X6 Sports Activity Coup he said.

The Empress Market was constructed between 1884 and 1889 and was named to commemorate Queen Victoria, Empress of India. It was designed by James Strachan, the foundations were completed by the English firm of A.J. Attfield, and the building constructed by the local firm of ‘Mahoomed Niwan and Dulloo Khejoo’. The building was arranged around a courtyard, 130 ft by 100 ft, with four galleries each 46 ft wide. The galleries provided accommodation for 280 shops and stall keepers; at the time of its construction it was one of seven markets in Karachi.

Photograph of the D.J. Sind Arts College (now known as the D. J. Government Science College) of Karachi, taken by an unknown photographer, c.1900, from an album of 46 prints titled ‘Karachi Views’. Designed by James Strachan and considered this architect’s greatest achievement, the college was built between 1887 and 1893. Named after the Sindhi philanthropist Dayaram Jethmal, whose two family members contributed towards its cost, the building was constructed in the neoclassical, or ‘Italian architectural style’. A considerable amount of money was spent on the interior of the college; the floors comprised mosaic tiles imported from Belgium and the eight-foot wide main staircase was fitted with ornamental cast-iron work from McFarlane & Company of Glasgow. Karachi, once the capital of Pakistan, is now the capital of Sindh province and the major port and main commercial centre of the country. It was a strategically located small port at a protected natural harbour on the Arabian Sea north-west of the mouth of the Indus, and was developed and expanded by the British when they took over Sindh in the mid-19th century to serve the booming trade from the Punjab and the wheat and cotton regions of the sub-continent

The British had also developed the concept of gymkhanas or sports-houses which provided facilities for all sorts of sports and games for the colonial population in the sub-continent. The Saddar Bazaar at Karachi followed a typical gridiron plan; all the major north-south streets of the Bazaar were laid out at right angles to Bander Road, Frere, Somerset and Elphinstone Streets which along with Victoria Road, linked the northern part of the cantonment to the southern part. The area soon developed into the most fashionable part of the city, supplying the needs of both its civilian and military parts

Water-colour of Karachi (Sind) by Henry Francis Ainslie (c.1805-1879) , April 1851. Inscribed on the front of the mount in red ink is: ‘Sindh, part of the native town of Kurrachee, 1851.’ Originally Karachi was a small village made up of a cluster of fishermen’s huts on the three islands of Manora, Bhit and Baba. Due to it’s location at the western end of the Indus delta the town has traditionally served as an important gateway for trade into central Asia. With the development of its harbour it gradually grew into a large city and an important centre of trade and industry

After bowling maidnes, Harbhajan Singh was stumped by upcoming model Priya Reddy. Though not love at first sight, three years of local, STD and ISD calls have led to a relationship that has "really blossomed". The future? An MA degree for Priya, 200th wicket for Bhajji and then marriage (hopefully).

The Tribune Reports

Harbhajan to marry Punjabi girl : J.S. Malhotra

Jalandhar, January 6 : Punjabi girls now have a reason to smile. Finally, the Indian off-spinner Harbhajan Singh today categorically rejected the reports with regard to his proposed marriage with Bangalore based girl Priya Reddy and said that he would only tie nuptial knot with a Punjabi girl.

“The report published in a section of press about me getting married with final year psychology student at Bishop Cotton is totally baseless and devoid of the facts. I am not going to marry her. Definitely, I know her very much even as she is just a good friend. But, it does not mean I will marry her,” Turbanator, maintained.

“I came to know about the report when my close friends and family members rang me up to congratulate over my marriage plans. Although I know Priya very well and even went along with her for outings, but it does not mean that I am going to marry her,” he asserted.

“Even my parent scolded me for my reported decision of marriage, which I never took and it was only after my assurance to them to abide by their decision about my marriage, they calmed down,”he added.

Asked about his marriage plans, Bhajji said that he would take decision on the issue only after a couple of years. It will be an arranged marriage and bride, a Punjabi girl, would be selected only by my family members.[via]

Mandira Bedi in an Interview Said : Bedi’s equally benevolent towards good friend Bhajji (Harbhajan Singh), who was recently almost married off to Bangalore-based model Priya Reddy. “Bhajji told me that there isn’t a ring of truth in this rumour and I believe him,” she declares...read more
