Millionaire industrialist and Congress MP Naveen Jindal Friday become the latest victim of a shoe attack with a retired school teacher hurling footwear at him in this Haryana town.

Though the shoe did not hit Jindal, the Haryana police took Raj Pal into custody following the incident.

Police officials said that the man was being medically examined as he seemed to be in an inebriated state when he hurled his shoe at Jindal. The provocation behind the incident was not yet clear.

The incident took place at the Congress office in Kurukshetra, about 80 km from capital Chandigarh, where Jindal was present at a meeting of party leaders.

Jindal, who represents the Kurukshetra constituency in the Lok Sabha, is seeking re-election from the seat.

Journalist Jarnail Singh had tossed his shoe at Home Minister P. Chidambaram during a press conference at the Congress headquarters in New Delhi Tuesday. His grouse was that the Congress and the central government was doing nothing to give justice to victims of the 1984 anti-Sikh riot victims. The throw worked, forcing riot suspects Jagdish Tytler and Sajjan Kumar of the Congress out of the poll race.

Street singers from Hyderabad have been co-opted by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for its election campaign. Using their singing style, the BJP has responded to the Congress’ ‘Jai Ho’ with its own ‘Bhay Ho.’ This dark ditty has been set to the tune of the Slumdog Millionaire’s theme song ‘Jai Ho’ and to spread the message that there is nothing to cheer about.

Congress was quick enough to take rights & create a video out of much acclaimed song Jai Ho from Slumdog Millionaire but quicker was the counter strategy from BJP to come out with another video based on the same song. This video titled Bhay Ho speaks something like, Aaja aaja voter is jhanse ke tale, aaja jhote moote vaade ke tale, BHAY HO. The song features street children from Hyderabad, singing the song in the general compartment of a train and a stranger planting a bomb in the railway coach.

The BJP has already released jingles for FM radio focusing on price rise and the daily grind of the poor. BJP says that they have not officially released this video & it’s some party supporter who has sent this video. Have a look on it, and definitely had a laugh watching this video.

Seeking to counter the 'Jai Ho' ad campaign of the Congress, BJP unveiled a parody of the famous Slumdog Millionaire song saying 'Bhay Ho' (let fear prevail).

"The video is not an official one. It is sent to us by a party sympathiser. This song depicts the real situation of the country. It says.... Bhay (fear) ho.... bhook (hunger) ho.... Antak (terror) ho.... Mahangayi (inflation) ho.... phir bhi jai ho," party spokesperson Sidhaarthnath Singh told reporters in New Delhi.

The song features street children from Hyderabad, singing the song in the general compartment of a train and a stranger planting a bomb in the railway coach.

BJP said the street singers are already taking the message against the ruling Congress by their performances.

"The artists are street singers and they are already into the job of taking the message to different areas with this song even before it is unveiled here," Singh said.

Even as the saffron party opposed the idea of the Slumdog Millionaire child artists campaigning for Congress, calling it a "mockery of poverty", the short film features two street children Nagarjun and Durga singing the song.

On being asked if the party feared a copyright violation of the tune by launching the 'Bhay Ho' song, Singh said, "we will respond to the notice if it is sent to us". [via]

This dark ditty has been set to the tune of the Slumdog Millionaire’s theme song ‘Jai Ho’ and to spread the message that there is nothing to cheer about. BJP spokesperson Siddharth Nath Singh, closely involved in the party’s campaign management, told reporters on Saturday that this ditty would be played at the party’s election rallies.[via]
