Victoria police confirmed 84 dead. Most of them are from towns of Kinglake and Wandong, about 65 kilometers northeast of the state capital Melbourne. Fire fighter are trying to control 60 active fires. Death toll is likely to be risen as fire will under control.
Exact cause of fire is not confirmed yet. But most possible cause is lighting fires in community. "A lot of these fires actually went over expectations.
Prime Minister Kevin Rudd said that army troops will help firefighters to control 26 fires. Though Emergency response crews were having difficulty accessing the town because of fallen trees, Residents were safely evacuated to the local sports ground according to fire authority.
State Premier John Brumby said "It is not over yet, It’s a tragic day, a tragic weekend in our history. The impacts on families are just devastating. I feel devastated."
